Exhibition: “Winter Portraits” presents sites of significance

02.02.2018

The art project is made specifically for the TUAS building.

Staff, students and visitors of the Aalto University TUAS building are introduced to a selection of six outside spaces, now residing in the lobby as moving images. The art commission, “Winter Portraits”, made by artist Danai Anagnostou, was imagined as a Christmas card to the building. It was opened before Christmas and will be on display until February 9.

The exhibition puts forward a participatory approach to site-specficity within the Maarintie 8 building. The project began with a request to those working in the building: could they suggest a site of significance in the wider Uusimaa region? Significance could comprise diverse meanings: it could indicate a place that might be ingrained in their memory or routine, or a place of appreciation or aversion.

This is the third site-specific artwork developed for TUAS. The exhibition is commissioned and curated by Katie Lenanton. Danai Anagnostou (b. 1993) is a research-based artist and production designer, who is currently pursuing an MA in Visual Culture in Aalto University. She holds an MA of Architectural Design from Vakalo College of Art & Design, Athens.
