This joint exhibition co-hosted by the Museum of Finnish Architecture and the Aalto University Wood Program tells the story of Finnish wood architecture over the past two decades. It also celebrates the Wood Program’s 20th anniversary.

The Puustudio (Wood Studio) was founded at Aalto University's Department of Architecture in 1994 in order to give students first-hand experience in building. Since then, the design-build studio has expanded into a year-long curriculum of lectures, excursions and workshop exercises known internationally as the Wood Program. It has brought students from 42 countries to Finland to study wooden architecture and to construct experimental projects in wood. This autumn, the studio celebrates its 20th anniversary as well as the completion of 30 projects realized by students from Finland and around the world.

See and feel wood come to life in the exhibition architecture and in 47 projects showcasing innovative uses of timber. Each project is also illustrated with scale models.

Focusing mainly on current trends in contemporary wood architecture from 1994 to 2014, the chosen projects showcase the boundless opportunities offered by wood. Today’s up-and-coming generation of Finnish architects combines age-old traditions with wholly new techniques of building with wood.
