Rational Frozen Species

Frozen Species has been a spontaneous concatenation of 3 art events that took place in Helsinki during February 2015. During the symposium I will show the video documenting one of this event: “The Bastard Parade”. The protagonists of the parade were 15 foreigner artists living in Helsinki who built 15 different mobile installations using skis as the base. The artists trailed their installations through the streets of Helsinki creating performances ranging from the humorous to the extremely provocative in relation to the symbolic dimension of the space. At the end of the parade they temporarily occupied the botanical garden of the rare species in Kaisaniemi in order to claim their right to be rare and mad in a rational and grey city. Each installation of the parade was conceived as a personal totem expressing the singular worldling of the artist who create it. The Bastard Parade can be described as an heterogeneous nomadic flight of a multiplicity of singularities contesting the homogeneity of the urban space as coded territory. The video raises questions concerning dissensus, minority, capitalism, nationalism, media censorship, Anartism and DistUrbanism.

Structure

The video is 30 minutes long, the rest of the time would be dedicated to describe the effects and counter-effects triggered by the parade, conceived as a processual exhibition with no established end. A brief discussion will follow.

Bio

My name is Gian luigi Biagini, I’m a transmedial artist who expresses himself through political-poetical interventions in public spaces. However my politics is not ideological i follow more a politics of the body, as Pasolini would say:” I want to express myself by throwing my body into the fight”. This is why my action are completely situational, i have to feel which is the power in that kind of situation and subvert it with a poetic action that open a space of indeterminacy. Through my actions, not only i always show the invisible power that affects our life making the institutions become schizos, but i also open the potential for an expression outside the established codes, an event of novelty with potential of unknown fee-backs. My art is based on braveness and personal risk as i have shown several times in Helsinki, Marrakech (where i have risked the sharia) and in a recent intervention in the Venice Biennale where I have been stopped by police, carabinieri and the biennale’s employed for just having shown an image out of the code of the representation. I’m also a doctoral student to Aalto University, my research is founded by Kone for this year. My topic is CAPITALISM AS MEDIUM and my focus is in “turbo-cities and museum’s attractors”.
