Invitation to submit papers for consideration to be published in the Synnyt/Origin journal

Rethinking arts-based & artistic research – and global/local communities  

The editors of the special issue of Synnyt / Origin: Finnish Studies in Art Education invite all participants of the conference of the 4th Arts-Based Research and Artistic Research Conference, June 28-30, 2016, to submit their papers for consideration to be published in the Synnyt/Origin journal (https://wiki.aalto.fi/display/Synnyt/En)

 

All submissions will undergo a peer-review process. To adhere to the nature of the conference, the review board consists of scholars, artists, and students engaged in arts-based and artistic research with various levels of expertize and experience. All papers must be submitted in Word documents as well as follow APA 6th edition referencing style and formatting. The authors need to have rights and ownership of all submitted materials (including text, visuals, and audio). Information concerning the format and size of the visuals, audio & video will follow.

 

Authors are encouraged to submit either fully developed academic/research papers or visual essays.

 

  •       Research papers: These are scholarly papers with a significant writing component.  Although these papers can contain images or links to audio or video material, this is not a requirement. Maximum word count for submission 3000 words, including references.
  •       Visual essays: The main focus of these submissions is on the visual material. Word count maximum for these submissions is 1500 words, including description of the project/art/research, any thematic discussion & references. At minimum, introduction or abstract should be 150-200 words (minimum word requirement with video/audio submissions).

 

Submission deadline for finished reserach papers and visual essays is September 15, 2016.

Guidelines for images, webtext, and/or multimedia digital essay:

Files types (E.g. images, audio, video, multimedia, 3D models, interactive timelines)

 

  *   Images in jpg form (preferred minimum 1200px on the long edge).

  *   Please, embed or mark images or links explicitly in the text

  *   Webtext submissions should check for cross-browser compatibility before submitting.

  *   Please, do not use external systems that do not provide a way to export and publish your work elsewhere. Please, make sure there are no gaps when a webhost goes offline, out of business, or is not open-source.

  *   XHTML or HTML 5 web markup is preferred. Web markup that validates to the HTML 4.01 Strict DOCTYPE will also be accepted. Multimedia and/or interactive submissions should be copyright free and/or open source.
