Artistic Interventions, the exhibition program of InSEA 2018, consists of the curated exhibition for the InSEA congress, Dark Days, White Nights, and of artistic contributions from children and young people, from graduate students in art education and art and design, and from other artists and scholars around Finland.

The City of Espoo cordially invites you for cocktails at the WeeGee which is cultural meeting place and an event hub in Espoo with several museums. The reception starts by a visit to the Espoo Museum of Modern Art, EMMA.
The reception is included in the registration fee, but you are requested to register in advance by using the online registration form.
Museum Tours
Wednesday 20 June
Helsinki has an active art scene with various museums, galleries and artist run spaces. The Conference batch will grant you free entry to the Finnish National Gallery museums Ateneum Art Museum, Kiasma Museum of Contemporary Art and Sinerbrychoff Art Museum. During the conference Kiasma showcases The Aalto Natives by artist duo Erkka Nissinen and Nathaniel Mellors who represented Finland at the 2017 Venice Biennale. Their work,The Aalto Natives, is a humorous yet critical examination of Finnish identity that involves creativity, nerdy humour and a cast of national celebrities from prehistoric times to the age of robotics.
A more detailed program of the exhibitions in Helsinki area will be available during the conference.

Campus Tours
Wednesday 20 June

Student led and optionally self-guided tours on the Aalto University Otaniemi campus. The tours will include unique architecture sites by Alvar Aalto (Learning Centre, Undergraduate Centre) and Raili and Reima Pietilä (Dipoli) and more recent additions, such as the new building for the School of Arts, Design and Architecture (Väre by Vertas Architects). The tours offer also the opportunity to visit fascinating Aalto University platforms for multidisciplinary collaboration such as Biofilia – Base for Biological Arts, Design Factory, Urban Mill and Startup Sauna.

About sauna Verner
Enjoy a moment of relaxation and refreshment in one of the most unique public saunas in Helsinki. Sauna Verner is a combination of Finnish sauna tradition, modern design, and industrial history of the city. The handcrafted log sauna is located on the rooftop of Kaapelitehdas cultural center, the massive former cable factory building from the 1930’s. The comfortable lounge takes 25 persons and sauna 10-12 persons in a time. Jump into the bathing barrel and enjoy the views over the city and Baltic sea from the large open terrace!
Enrollment and payment
Because of the limited space, booking in advance is obligatory. Please enroll and pay the fee by the conference registration desk until Wednesday. You can choose the fee including towel (16€) or bring your own (12€).
What to bring along
In Finland, wearing a swimming suit is often forbidden even in public saunas. In sauna Verner you can bath with or without a swimming suit. There are no free towels and bathrobes available in sauna Verner.
Drinking and eating
The sauna fee includes non-alcoholic drinks and snacks. You can bring your own beverages, also alcoholic drinks are allowed. The easiest way is to buy food and beverages from the supermarket by Ruoholahti metro station. Please note that wine and other stronger alcohols are sold only in special shops called “Alko”.
How to get there
Sauna Verner is located by the seaside in Helsinki western downtown in Ruoholahti area. There is no transportation for conference guests, but you’ll easily get there by metro from both directions (Otaniemi or Helsinki city center). Take a metro to Ruoholahti station and walk from the metro station to Kaapelitehdas (10 minutes walk, Itämerenkatu to the west). Find door C in the inner courtyard of the building. Your sauna hosts will be guiding you by the entrance. The elevator just opposite to the entrance C takes you to sauna Verner in 8th floor.
Please get the instructions paper with a map from the registration desk while booking!
